I’m Alex
I came to design a little later than most. After years working with my hands, on boats and machines, I went back to school and leaned into the creative side of myself I hadn't given much room to yet. That background still shows up in how I think, being less interested in the elegant theory and more interested in whether the thing actually works when someone's using it in the real world.
These days I'm a design lead and my work varies depending on the client and the project. What I actually like is the puzzle underneath all of it all, where noticing the small frustrations people have stopped even registering because they've just learned to work around them and figuring out why they're there in the first place.
Outside of work I'm the person who will happily talk to anyone in a room full of strangers. But put me on a stage with a mic and a motivational slide deck and I will find the nearest exit. When asked "what do you do?" I prefer to talk about surfing, skiing, cooking something a little too ambitious for a weeknight, being a girl dad, or getting pulled down the beach by my dog.
